New Restaurant Brings Mediterranean Flavors, Culture to Westport

Westport's newest hot spot, "Boca," which means "mouth" in Spanish, offers delicious flavors from Spain, Italy and France.

WESTPORT, CT — For Revisson Bonfim, a 43-year-old bond analyst, switching from finance to food was not that big of a stretch. The Norwalk resident who is originally from Brazil said he wanted to take over the Acqua Ristorante Mediterraneo at 43 Main Street business to pursue his passions— food, wine, art and the Mediterranean culture he loves.

His new restaurant, Boca, which means "mouth" in Spanish, offers delicious flavors from Spain, Italy and France, thanks to Chef Louis Arias. Boca opened mid-September after Acqua closed after 20 years in business.

“I've worked in restaurants since I was 16," Bonfim said. "My first job was working at a restaurant in Greenwich as a dishwasher, and then I went from a dishwasher to a bus boy to a waiter."

Bonfim, whose staff includes employees from Guatamala, Peru and Spain, said he decided to purchase and renovate Acqua after being a regular for over a decade. Proudly showing off his wine closet, Bonfim said they offer over 60 different wines by the bottle and 16 wines by the glass. His lunch and dinner menus include everything from Paella and Prosciutto di Parma to lamb chops, Branzino, sea scallops and much more. The restaurant also serves brick oven pizza and a wide variety of family-friendly options as well.

Boca just introduced their new Sunday brunch menu which includes bottomless Mimosas, Bellinis and Bloody Mary's for just $16. Our family of five recently visited for Sunday brunch and started off with Crispy Calamari ($10) and Potato Gnocchi, which was a savory and sweet blend of butternut squash with light cream sauce ($10). For lunch/brunch we ordered Steak & Eggs Benedict ($16), the Frittata ($10), Fettucine Lobster ($19) and my husband and I both had the Shrimp & Scallops ($22).

The presentation Chef Louis displays in his entrees are like a work of art and each dish was a flavor explosion. Service was top notch and the staff was friendly, outgoing and knowledgeable. Artist Gerardo Flores' beautiful canvas photos and paintings complete the picture, adding to the atmosphere of Westport's newest go-to place for foodies and wine lovers alike.
